While I love this blog, I now pretty much only write on my other two blogs: BirdingBlogs.com and 10,000 Birds - I would love to see you there!

Wallcreeper nest 3

Wallcreepers at a nest in the Paznauntal (western Tirol). They are nesting in a drainage hole in the side of an old bridge. It does not make for the prettiest of settings, but the birds are gorgeous. This is the third location this year where I have seen a pair of wallcreepers. very nice.

The nest is over there in the middle of that great big wall.

Okay, I really need to go get ready - we are going out to the nest again in 10minutes!

Happy birding,
Dale Forbes

Yes a very cool bird - I have never seen one though. There are only a few spots in Switzerland, where the Wallcreeper can be seen.

Hi Dale,
These are very cool pictures of a elusive bird. Not so easy to get close to it but you manage some decent shots, so well done.

Thanks, JR and Sue!

@Dreamfalcon - It took me almost 2 years here spending literally hundreds of hours searching for them in the best sites before I saw my first ones. This year has been particularly good and I have photographed three pairs so far... awesome

HI Chris, very very hard to get pics of them. I was out again today and managed to get in to a good position but wished I had had a really fast 300mm lens with me to catch them flying past. Nevertheless, I managed to get a few cool shots which I will post during the week some time.

Excellent shots of a beautiful bird Dale. Especially the last photo of the Wallcreeper with its wings spread. Amazing. I need to read you last few posts on this bird and how it builds its nest!

What a lovely little bird! Obviously we don't have this one down here. I hope we get to see more of its nest!

You rock, Dale! Wonderful post, and congratulations. I, like the others, have these wallcreepers as a dream bird.

@ John R, it was pretty much at the top of my must see list for a very long time. this year has exceptional and I am feeling lucky so as soon as I have posted a new blog post, I am off to go check a four potential nest site!

@Shady, there is nothing like them on earth. they are ridiculous and sooo much craziest than photos could ever express

@ John B, thank you for the compliment. can you believe it, I still have not taken a wallcreeper photo that I am entirely happy with. I endeavour to capture the essence of a creature in a photo and I do not believe I have managed that yet...

@ Larry, did you read the posts from last year? I had fun doing them...

@ Halcyon, I have tried to get some decent nest shots, but they seem to prefer the most ridiculously difficult to photograph locations (either inaccessible or dark. or both), nest deep in a cliff (so photographing the nest itself is impossible) or in a not so pretty man-made wall (like the pair in this post)

@Jerry, wallcreepers are a dream bird. they rock!

@Sebi, thank you. you have some stunning photos yourself!
