While I love this blog, I now pretty much only write on my other two blogs: BirdingBlogs.com and 10,000 Birds - I would love to see you there!

Biggest Bird Blogger Convention (only counting Central European bird blogs)

Today was the great day: the largest, most dramatic, most incredible Bird Blogger Convention EVER! to take place in central europe with central european bird bloggers.

given that there only appear to be two bird bird blogs in the whole of Germany and Austria, that just means that Jochen (of Bell Tower Birding fame) and I got together.

Having just a couple of hours to entertain ourselves, we quickly darted up the Sellraintal to Kühtai to try pick up some of the high alpine birds. We were rewarded with about 12 Alpine, 20 White-winged Snowfinches and frozen hands (it was -7°C up there, after all).

It is always great to meet blogger friends... so far I have managed to meet up with Corey, Joan and Sharon, with whole piles more to go...

Happy birding,
Dale

Fraser, you will be pleased to know that you were on our agenda: both of us really appreciate your blog!

How great to see what Jochen looks like too. I hope the two of you had a great beer and braai party. I am trying to get him to come and visit too. :)

Great happy bloggers! ;)

The renaissance begins with the two of you...giving birth to a new era....exploring the highlands which will make its way down the valleys, and to the cities and ports below.

Ha!
Dale, it was an immense pleasure meeting you!!! I am sure it was even more memorable for you as our meeting surely was the first and only time your birdwatching was cut short by a toddler's indigestion. I still really enjoyed Kühtai.
Next time I am in kiefersfelden, I'll try to get a week or two in the summer and then we can really let the birding ROCK !

Cheers, thanks again for everything and happy birding trails until we meet again,
Jochen

P.S.: Joan, the problem was that we could not find any freezedroe-wors, so we went for hot chocolate and espresso instead.

I thought I felt a disturbance in the force...all you guys need is two more bird bloggers and you have a bird-blogger-barbershop quartet!

Jochen said...

@Corey, all we need is you next time to revive "The Rat Pack", singing the Ballad of Jack the Dipper.

I think this may be the first photo I've seen of Jochen. He looks like Bruce Dickinson's long lost cousin.

Jochen said...

@Patrick: actually it is true, this is the only picture of me on the internet.
I fully acknowledge your goodwill to somehow connect me to Bruce Dickinson and if I could only sing 1% that well, I'd be - well - 1% as rich and famous as him, but frankly I look more like a formerly-young lad who has just taken care of a toddler with stomach flu for a week while fighting stomach flu himself.
Oh dear, you'll get there, too. Mark my words, young dad, mark them!
Cheers and keep them PR-PR posts coming!

I think next time you should have an international convention. Jochen is dying to get back to Ann Arbor, I'm sure.
