While I love this blog, I now pretty much only write on my other two blogs: BirdingBlogs.com and 10,000 Birds - I would love to see you there!

Big Hat policemen

I just loved these guys' huge police hats. I just could not get enough of them.

I never got around to taking a photo of one of the Kazakhstan policemen myself, but this is a photo that James Lees managed to snap off. James is based in Gloucestershire and writes a blog: JSLees Wildlife Images. As the name suggests, he has some nice digiscoped and DSLR photos (and a video of a young Pallid Harrier in his local reserve).

That is one impressively fancy hat!

It reminds me of when my dad was in the army many, many years ago. :)

Ha! Their hats do look big on their heads.

I so wanted one of those hats! Somehow I don't think it would have ended well if I had snatched one though...

The Chinese and Koreans also wear oversize hats and I think the Russians do to.

As far as I know, the hats are meant to make the policemen or military personel appear taller and more impressive.
I always thought that exactly the opposite was true: the guys wearing the hats appeared to be too small and whimpy for their hat and it made them look ridiculous.
But still, Corey: it was a very good plan not to snatch one off the head of a policeman driving off from a road block. I mean, the guys are quite possibly more harmless than your average highway cop in the US but you really don't want to push your luck, right?

And Dale, how did you escape (see my comment on Corey's most recent post)?
Glad you did and I hope all your limbs are still attached.
